My name is Jerry Liu (刘锦宗). I grew up in the suburbs of Houston, received my engineering degrees from Cornell University, and have lived in California ever since.
Professionally, I have spent most of my career in corporate research, and over the years my work has spanned across several technical disciplines. My Google Scholar profile provide a good glimpse at where I’ve dabbled over the years. Currently, I head up the Machine Learning Center of Excellence at HP Labs where researchers and engineers are working to expand the frontiers in areas such as natural language processing, knowledge representation, and time-series forecasting, with a focus on applications in digital transformation.
In my off-work hours, I devote a large amount of my time to public service. I currently serve as the Board Vice President for the Cupertino Union School District (CUSD). I was elected in 2018 and thus have a few years left on my term. CUSD is a large district that spans over six cities in the heart of silicon valley and has an annual budget of close to $200 million. It is one of the top-performing districts in the state and many of our schools are known nationally for their programs. I’m incredibly proud to be part of this community.
Those who work with me know that I always travel with a paper notebook to scribble down notes and ideas. This site is an online version of this notebook where I archive information that I’ve found useful for my work and my hobbies and perhaps share an idea or two about the dynamic world that we live in. I’m sharing this in hopes that this may be useful for those with similar interests.
Welcome to my world!
